Complacency

More thoughts on the “entitled generation.”.

Entitlement – to feel that one deserves to have something even if it is unmerited.  Leads to

Complacency – A feeling of contentment or self-satisfaction, especially when coupled with an unawareness of danger, trouble, or controversy.

What is the solution to this?  What shakes us out of our sense of entitlement and complacency?  I think the current situation – recession, war, economic-social upheaval of the status quo – might do it.  Having the rug pulled out from under you brings your awareness to the blessing that is stable ground.  To not take things for granted.  To be resilient, self-reliant, and persistent in spite of trouble, which in itself is a kind of courage.
