Food creation success!

Cooked up a storm this week.  I think I’m getting the hang of this =).  Thanksgiving this year is going to be BEAUTIFUL.

Sauteed scallops with butter, white wine, lemon juice and leeks

Apple cake

Avocado and tomato bruschetta

Warm millet and broccoli (with sesame couscous in place of millet)

Phyllo-wrapped brie with fig jam

Photo of apple cake from A Tender Crumb.

christmas lights

Sun pouring in my windows this morning, F and coffee and Moby-Dick in bed.  LED christmas lights up in my living room, a new rug, an hour saved, and nothing urgent to do all day.  A perfect autumn Sunday.

I want discipline though – discipline to do what I love even better.  Cook, study, spend time with friends and family, make art, play music, just play, explore, run and exercise, stock up on tasty wine, fresh coffee, write.  I want to grow and expand in all directions, bursting with a need to feel and learn and do.

Go Go Sotomayor!

“Justice Sonia Sotomayor is accustomed to being underestimated and to surpassing the expectations of her doubters. So I’ll wonder if she even took the time to ponder the leak last week of a May 2009 letter to President Obama from a famous Harvard law professor lobbying for the selection of Elena Kagan to replace Justice David H. Souter, whose retirement had recently been announced. I’m quite sure it is the professor, Laurence H. Tribe, rather than Justice Sotomayor, who is mortified by the revelation that he had dissed the soon-to-be-nominee, a graduate of Princeton and Yale Law School, as “not as smart as she seems to think she is.”’
